Dinevate vs Square Online

Dinevate is one restaurant system: your website, your online ordering, your own branded app, an AI phone line and your in-store register all running on one menu, one order pipeline and one customer list. Square Online is a website and online-store builder inside Square.

  • Ordering like a chain app

Each menu category is its own page, with half-and-half pizzas, topping prices that follow the size, and Light, Normal, Extra or On the Side.

  • Every order, one system

Your website, your included app, the AI phone line and the front counter all land on one kitchen screen and one customer list.

  • Real articles, your website

We write full-length local pages from your live menu and publish them on your own website, then report what each one earned.

  • The price, up front

Onboarding is a set $499 one time, then an ongoing arrangement with no contract; reservations, Voice AI, Catering Pro and Social Media Pro are add-ons.

This is the ordering your guests get

Not a mockup — your menu, on your own domain and in your own branded app, with the checkout guests already know from the national chains.

What is Square Online?

Square Online is the website and online-store builder inside Square, tied to Square payments and the Square register. Plans are Free, Plus at $49 and Premium at $149 per location per month; online card processing is 3.3% + 30¢ on the free tier and 2.9% + 30¢ on the paid tiers, with Kitchen Display at $30 per device per month and Kiosk at $50 per device per month on Plus. The free tier publishes to a .square.site address that carries Square branding. The ordering page renders the menu as one page with category tabs and a search inside it. Digital wallets are switched on by the merchant rather than being on by default, and per Square's own documentation Apple Pay appears only in Safari. Square has no reservations product of its own for restaurants and no branded consumer app for your restaurant. Its AI voice ordering is in beta: it requires a Square-supplied phone number and prepayment, and per Square's own documentation it is not trained to answer other kinds of questions such as business hours, location information, reservations or specialized orders like catering. On the two live Square restaurant sites we audited, the ordering page emitted no structured data and no H1 heading, and the sitemaps (187 and 36 URLs) contained homepage, category and item pages only — one still carried the untouched /s/stories/story-title blog placeholder. Local content is a blog module the operator fills in.

What is Dinevate?

Most vendors sell a website and an ordering page, then add a phone product, an app and a register on top. In Dinevate they were never separate. Website checkout, your branded mobile app, the AI phone agent and the in-store register all call the same order function, so a phone order and a web order are the same object in the same system — same tax logic, same discount validation, same duplicate guard, same confirmation email. They all land on one kitchen screen on the Order Manager tablet, so there is no separate "AI orders" inbox to remember to check. They all read one menu record that also feeds Google's food-ordering feeds, so you price a dish once for every surface. A caller is matched by phone number to the same customer account the website and app use — name, saved addresses — and a first-time caller is created as a customer record automatically with the order attached, which is also your email-marketing audience. Because the channel is stamped on every order row, your dashboard draws one "How Customers Order" breakdown across website, app, phone and counter: a chart a website-plus-ordering vendor structurally cannot produce, because there is no phone product sitting on the same database. Onboarding is $499, one time, and covers your website, online ordering, loyalty, local SEO, email marketing and the Order Manager tablet, which is loaned and remains Dinevate property; your branded iPhone and Android app is included too, with no separate subscription. After launch you are on an ongoing arrangement — either a per-order service fee or a flat monthly, whichever fits your restaurant — with no contract and no cancellation penalty. Four products are add-ons with their own subscriptions: reservations, Dinevate Voice AI, Catering Pro and Social Media Pro. Dinevate Delivery is not a subscription at all — it is the delivery itself, dispatched to the best-rated drivers in your area, priced per delivery by area and distance, with 100% of the tip going to the driver.

Why restaurants choose Dinevate over Square Online

The phone and the counter are part of the same system

A product that sells a website plus an ordering page cannot connect a phone call to your customer list, because there is no phone product sitting on the same database. In Dinevate the AI phone line writes into the same orders, the same kitchen screen and the same customer list as the website, so a caller who has never seen your site becomes a customer record and a marketable contact automatically. Voice AI is an add-on with its own pricing; the system it plugs into is there from day one.

Ordering that behaves like the chain apps your guests already use

Almost every platform in this category puts the whole menu on one page and gives you a tab that jumps you down it. Dinevate gives every category its own page — loaded before the guest taps it, statically cached, and something Google can index on its own. Underneath sits the depth most restaurants have to give up: half-and-half pizzas placed on a visual pie, topping prices that follow the size, Light, Normal, Extra or On the Side on each ingredient, and one tap that rebuilds a past order down to every option.

We write the local pages, not just the tags

Square gives you SEO fields and a blog section that stays empty until you write it — one site we audited still had the untouched placeholder post sitting in its sitemap. Our specialists write 10 to 16 full local pages for a single-location restaurant during onboarding, from your live menu, real hours and real delivery times, published on your own website. The cap is the point: in August 2026 we deleted 8,252 of our own pages across 47 restaurants after measuring that they had earned no clicks in 90 days.

One set price, and the honest part about the rest

Onboarding is $499, one time, the same number for every restaurant. After launch you are on an ongoing arrangement — either a per-order service fee or a flat monthly, whichever fits your volume — with no contract and no cancellation penalty; there is an ongoing cost, and we would rather tell you that here than in month two. Reservations, Voice AI, Catering Pro and Social Media Pro are add-ons with their own subscriptions, and Dinevate Delivery is not a subscription at all — you pay per delivery, only when you use it.

A Dinevate restaurant menu: a sticky category list down the left, Menu, Best Sellers, Specials and Deals across the top, and photographed category tiles
Best Sellers is built from real order counts and hides itself until a restaurant has enough history to be honest about it. Specials and Deals get their own destinations instead of being buried in the menu.
One system, not a stack

Most vendors sell a website and an ordering page, then bolt on the rest. In Dinevate they were never separate.

Your website, your online ordering, your branded app, the AI that answers your phone and the register at your counter all run on one menu, one order pipeline and one customer record. That is not a longer feature list — it is a different architecture, and it is what a website-plus-ordering vendor cannot copy without rebuilding.

One order pipeline, whichever door it came through

A website order, an order from your branded app, an order the AI took on the phone, and an order rung up at the counter are the same kind of order in the same system — same tax logic, same discounts, same duplicate protection, same confirmation. Nothing drifts between channels because there is no second channel to drift from.

One screen in the kitchen

Every order lands on the same Order Manager tablet and the same printer flow. A phone order looks exactly like a website order to your staff. There is no separate inbox to remember to check.

One menu behind every surface

The same menu drives your website, your app, what the AI says on the phone, the in-store register, and your Google food-ordering feeds. You price a dish once and it is priced everywhere.

One customer, however they reached you

When a regular calls, the AI recognizes the number against the same customer account the website uses — their name, their saved addresses. A caller who has never touched your website becomes a customer record with the order attached, and that record is the audience your email marketing already uses.

One list for reservations, one pipeline for catering

Bookings from the website, the app, the phone and the walk-in podium are a single list synced to the tablet. Catering inquiries taken on a call land in the same pipeline as the ones from your website form.

One chart a bolted-together stack cannot draw

Because the channel is recorded on every order, your dashboard shows one breakdown of how your customers actually order — website, app, phone, in-store — side by side. Vendors running separate systems for each channel have no single place that number exists.

And the ordering itself is built like a chain app

This is the part guests feel. Your regulars already know how the big chains order — Dinevate holds your menu to that standard.

Each category is its own page, not a scroll position

Most ordering platforms render your whole menu as one long document and give guests a jump-link to scroll inside it. Dinevate gives every category its own page, prefetched the moment the menu loads so it opens instantly — and individually indexable by Google. It behaves like an app and it ranks like a website.

Customization built for real menus

Half-and-half pizza with visual placement on the pie. Topping prices that follow the size automatically. Light, Normal, Extra or On the Side per ingredient. Required picks, pick-three budgets, nested sub-groups, and “these come included — tap to remove what you don’t want.”

Nobody gets stuck at the Add button

Miss a required choice and the button tells you so, then scrolls you straight to the group you missed and highlights it. The running price updates live on the button as you build the item.

Suggestions from your own order history

After an item is added, the suggestions that appear are computed from what your customers actually buy together, refreshed weekly — not a generic upsell list. Popular Combinations applies an entire proven build, every option included, in one tap.

Reorder that actually rebuilds the order

One tap rebuilds a past order with every modifier and special request intact. Favorites remember the exact options, not just the dish.

A checkout that does not lose people

Apple Pay and Google Pay where the processor supports them, saved cards, and guest checkout with no account wall. Four steps that collapse as you finish them, the order summary first on a phone, address autocomplete with a confirmation step, and honest longer wait times shown before the guest commits.

How Dinevate Delivery works

Frequently asked questions

Is Dinevate a better choice than Square Online for a restaurant?
It depends on how many doors your orders come through. Square Online covers website ordering inside the Square ecosystem, next to the Square register and Square payments. Dinevate is one system covering the website, your own branded app, the AI phone line and the in-store register on a single menu, a single order pipeline and a single customer list, with deeper item options and full local pages published on your own website. If the decision you are really making is about the in-restaurant hardware and payments, that is Square's ground. If it is about where your orders come from and who holds the customer afterwards, that is what Dinevate is built around — and it is the part a store builder cannot bolt on later.
How is the ordering different from Square's?
Structure first: Square puts the menu on one page with category tabs and a search inside it, while Dinevate gives every category its own page — loaded before the guest taps it, and indexable by Google on its own. Then depth: half-and-half pizzas with left, whole and right placement, topping prices that follow the size you picked, Light, Normal, Extra or On the Side on each ingredient, quantities like 2x bacon, and a button that scrolls the guest straight to the required choice they missed. Then the return visit: one tap rebuilds a past order with every option, and favorites remember the exact options and the special requests. Apple Pay and Google Pay sit in one express checkout block where your processor supports them, and tips, loyalty, wallet and gift cards are all things you can switch on or leave off.
Can Dinevate answer my phone?
Yes — Dinevate Voice AI is an add-on with its own pricing (a commission on the orders it takes, plus a $200 a month account minimum), and it is not part of the $499. It answers around the clock, takes the whole order from your real menu with sizes and options, answers menu questions, captures catering inquiries and hands the call to a person when a caller asks, and every call comes with a written transcript. When a caller pays, it texts a secure payment link rather than taking a card number over the line. Square's own voice ordering is in beta, uses a Square-supplied number, requires prepayment, and per Square's documentation is not trained to answer other kinds of questions such as business hours, location information, reservations or catering orders. Ours is live today, not a beta.
Do I have to stop using Square, and what happens to my current pages?
Your Square hardware and in-person payments keep working as they do today. What moves is the website, the ordering, the customer list and the local content — those run in Dinevate on your own domain, and that separation is exactly what makes one customer record across web, app and phone possible. Your old pages get real redirects to their new equivalents, pages that are genuinely gone return the proper "gone" response instead of being quietly pointed at your homepage, and we register and verify your domain with Google and submit the new sitemap so you can watch what happens. Dinevate also has a register mode with a floor map, tabs, staff logins and a real end-of-day drawer count, which can be turned on per restaurant if you later want the counter on the same pipeline.
Who writes the local pages — you or me?
We do. Square gives you SEO fields and a blog section that stays empty until you write it. Our specialists run the writing during onboarding: a first pass decides which pages are worth publishing for your specific restaurant, and a second writes each one in full — a headline, four to six sections, bullet lists, three to six questions and answers, and links to sibling pages — using only your real menu, addresses, hours and current deals, in the language your menu is written in. It is 10 to 16 pages for a single location, or 4 to 8 per location plus up to 6 brand pages for a group. The cap is the point: we report what each page earns in Search Console rather than publishing volume for its own sake.
What does Dinevate cost next to Square Online's plans?
Square Online is Free, $49 or $149 per location per month, with online processing at 3.3% + 30¢ on the free tier and 2.9% + 30¢ on the paid tiers, and the free tier puts you on a .square.site address with Square branding. Dinevate is a set $499 one-time onboarding — the same number for every restaurant — covering your website, online ordering, loyalty, local SEO, email marketing and the Order Manager tablet, which is loaned and stays our property; your branded app is included with no separate subscription. After launch there is an ongoing arrangement, either a per-order service fee or a flat monthly depending on your restaurant, with no contract. Reservations, Voice AI, Catering Pro and Social Media Pro are add-ons priced separately, Dinevate Delivery is paid per delivery rather than as a subscription, and a few things are one-time at signup: Pro Photo Service $99, receipt printer $299 each, kitchen display $249 each.
